A silkscreen exposure of discarded transparent marquee letters (used on illuminated fast food restaurant and church signs) acted as the the matrix for this project. By cropping, rotating, and inverting the letters of the English alphabet, one is able to interact with the forms outside their linguistic translations and cultural connotations. Out of a larger group of screen printed studies, ten final compositions were chosen based on their level of applied gestalt theory; exhibiting interplay between figure and ground, use of implied line, and a balance of negative and positive space.
Bound by nuts & bolts on plywood.
